When and how do I register my
child?
We accept registration online, by
mail, and in person. See our
information_sheet
for information including registration deadlines and Team
Placement dates and times.
What are the age groups and
divisions?
There are 4 divisions, Chipmunk,
Penguin, Beaver, and Cadet. See our
information_sheet
for your child's division, which is based on birth year.
Can my child play in a
different division?
Players may play in an older
division if the player and parent/guardian believe that they are
ready to do so.
Players may choose to play in two
divisions (their own division and an older division) in the same
season. Please complete two separate registration forms,
one for each division.
Players may not play in a younger
division.
What are Team Placements?
Team Placements are conducted for
Penguin and Beaver divisions to give the coaches an opportunity
to assess the skill level of the players. The goal of Team
Placements is to give the coaches information that will help us
draft competitively balanced teams. Placements are usually
held 2 weeks before the start of the regular season.
These are Placements, not
Tryouts. All registered player will be placed on a team.
When does the season start,
and how long is the season?
Spring:
Our Spring season typically
starts in April on the on the Saturday at the end of school
vacation week. This allows us to complete our 5 week
regular season just
before Memorial Day.
For Chipmunks, there will be a
Skills Day competition during the week after Memorial Day.
For Penguins, Beavers, and
Cadets, playoffs (all teams qualify for the playoffs) will start during the week after Memorial
Day, and could add up to two weeks of play before Champions are
crowned.
Fall:
Our Fall season typically starts
on the third Saturday of September. This can vary slightly
from year to year.
For Chipmunks, there will be a
Skills Day competition following the regular season.
For Penguins, Beavers, and
Cadets, the season will be followed by playoffs (all teams
qualify for the playoffs) and could add up to two weeks of play before Champions are
crowned. The playoffs usually end in early November.

The exact schedule depends on the
number of players and teams we have in each season. A
typical schedule will be something like this:
Chipmunks: Games
Monday thru Thursday at 5:00 PM, with each team playing twice
per week. The days each team plays will vary from week to
week.
Penguins: Games

usually at 6:00 and 7:10 PM. Times for Saturday afternoon games
will depend on the number of teams we have in each season.

team playing twice per week. Weeknight games are usually
at 6:00 and 7:10 PM, with 8:20 PM games possible in seasons of
heavy enrollment. Times for Saturday morning games will depend
on the number of teams we have in each season. The days
each team plays will vary from week to week.
Cadets: Games
weeknights, usually at 7:10 and 8:20 PM, with each team playing
twice per week. The days each team plays will vary from

Are there practices?
Chipmunk teams do not hold
practices separate from scheduled games. Early in the season,
part of the game time is used to practice specific skills before
starting the game. During games, coaches are on the rink
with the players to provide guidance and instruction.
Penguin and Beaver teams
conduct one practice per week, usually on Sunday. Some coaches
may choose to practice on Friday evenings. Each coach
selects a practice time at the start of the season, and keeps
that time for the entire season. After Team Placements and
before the start of the season, coaches may choose to hold
pre-season practices during the week. Coaches will select
times for pre-season practices at the team draft.
Some Cadet coaches choose
to hold a weekly practice, but most do not.
Hudson Youth Dek Hockey League is a non-profit organization.
